F.R.E.E. is happy to announce two New World Records!
On Monday, September 10th, divers Erez Beatus (Israel)
and Trevor Hutton (South Africa) both reached 46 meters/151
feet in the Unassited Constant Ballast category. With
this dive, both divers broke the existing record of
45 meters/148 feet that had been set by David Lee earlier
this year.
The dives took place in the waters off
Coral Beach, Eilat, Israel. Mr. Erez Beatus dove at
11:00 AM and Mr. Trevor Hutton at 11:30 AM. Both dives
were completed in identical times of 1:40 minutes. F.R.E.E.
appointed judges Erman Akarsu (Australia) and Mutlu
Gunay (Turkey) to verify these performances. In both
record attempts, Mr. Akarsu was positioned at the bottom
where he witnessed the arrival of both divers to the
goal depth, and Mr. Gunay was positioned at the surface
where he witnessed the departure from and return to
the zero mark. Both dives were conducted in strict compliance
to the F.R.E.E. rules and as such they have been accepted
as the New Shared World Record in this category. F.R.E.E.
is now waiting for the results of the anti-doping tests
to complete the approval process for these records.
F.R.E.E. wishes to congratulate Erez Beatus
and Trevor Hutton for their performances. The Unassited
Constant Ballast category, which is a type of freediving
only recognized and promoted by our organization, represents
a tremendous physical challenge for the diver. The fact
that both divers acted as a team reaching the same result,
shows a level of friendship and comraderie which is
quite refreshing in the freediving arena. We thank the
divers and their Organizing Committee for the hospitality
extended to our judges, and thank the event sponsors
for their contribution in making these records happen.
Mr. Beatus was sponsored by: Meduza Dive Center, Diver's
Village and Aqua Sport, and Mr. Hutton was sponsored
by: Suunto Dive Instruments.
As is our tradition, F.R.E.E. will provide
the needed space on our website, in the section "Records
Documented" for both divers to share the story
and images of their records with all other freedivers
of the world.
