David Lee, a Jamaican computer programmer and martial
arts instructor, has set the first official World Record
in the Unassisted Constant Ballast category. On April
4th, at 12:15 PM, in the waters of the Blue Lagoon in
Port Antonio, on the North East coast of Jamaica, David
accomplished this historical feat. David reached the
depth of 45 meters/148 feet in a total dive time of
1:40 minutes, of which 52 seconds were used for the
descent, 3 seconds spent at the bottom to retrieve the
confirmation tag and 45 seconds for the ascent. F.R.E.E.
appointed international judges Bob Hambidge and Jarrod
Jablonski, both from the USA, to verify the record.
Mr. Hambidge and Mr. Jablonski were positioned at the
bottom and the surface marks respectively.
F.R.E.E. congratulates David Lee on this world record,
which we hope will be only his first one. We are also
proud of the fact that we are the only organization
recognizing this category, which is the purest and most
athletic form of freediving in our opinion. We hope
to receive many other requests for record attempts in
this category in the future. David Lee's Website: www.ApneaBlue.com
