F.R.E.E. stops accepting CMAS verified records - 01.03.2001

Upon its foundation, F.R.E.E. had originally decided to recognize all freediving records verified by CMAS. At that point, we were aware of the existence of other organizations that had verified all freediving records established up until then. In trying to recognize and honor those records and the divers who set them, we took a very close look at all other organizations to see if there was enough of a common mentality and compatibility in the rules so that we could accept those records. The only organization that compared favorably to our standards and philosophy was CMAS and thus we decided to accept two world records in the Equipment Assisted Constant Ballast category. However, as F.R.E.E. has grown and matured as an organization, we have moved in a direction that sets us farther apart from all other organizations, including CMAS. Presently, we feel that the commitment to safety, fairness and the general knowledge about freediving exhibited by those organizations is far below the standards which we strive to achieve. Consequently, as of today March 1st, 2001, we will no longer recognize any records verified by CMAS. The records already accepted will remain current in our Official Record List and they will be accompanied by the following note: "Accepted from CMAS".
