Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The course seems pretty intensive, will we do all 5 days in a row or can we expect a break somewhere in there?
Well, usually, this course is done over a 6-day period, adding a rest day sometime after the second or third day. This helps keep the students fresh for their last days, when the diving becomes really demanding. So in general, we recommend having about 7-8 days for the course, since 1 day before the start of the course should be taken for rest and pre-dive preparation, and most likely, another day of recovery will be needed once the course is over!

Can I expect to take the course from real freediving world champions or top class trainers?
You will. The Master course can only be taught by a Master Instructor, and only 3 members of our team are qualified as such so far. They are multiple world champions Yasemin Dalkilic and David Lee, along with their trainer Rudi Castineyra, and they are the only ones teaching this course, so yes, you will get top-notch training. This is the best freediving course available today, period.

If I want to become an Instructor after this course, can I do it right after completion or do I need to fulfill other requirements?
First things first. Passing the Master Freediver course allows you to enroll in the Master Instructor course, BUT you need to be already an Assistant Instructor and have taught a minimum of 25 students to be eligible. If so, then usually a Master Instructor seminar follows every Master Freediver course and you could take both at the same time. The Master Instructor seminar usually lasts 2-3 days, depending on the number of students, and upon completion, you will be awarded all your teaching credentials and certificates, so yes, you could go back home and schedule your first course immediately!

Do I need to reach a particular depth to pass the course or do you guarantee that I will reach any depth level after taking the course?
No, you don't need to reach any certain depth to pass the course, and no, we do not guarantee that you will reach any depth during or after the course. Our main goal is to create competent freedivers, better able to interact with the aquatic environment and to think about safety before anything else. Therefore, we do not focus our system and philosophy on depths or numbers, as this mentality can be dangerous and counter-productive. The knowledge you will gain during the course will improve your freediving in all areas, and thus it could help you increase your maximum depth, but this is not the main goal of the course.

I understand, but if the depths reached during the course are deeper than average, will we have any kind of safety available?
Yes you will. During the Master Freediver course we always have safety diver as well as all other safety measures in place. In fact, during the course, we follow the same rules as apply for those attempting world records under F.R.E.E. verification, so the safety will be of the highest standards.

So, if I am able to reach a depth that qualifies as a new National or Continental record, can I have it validated by FREE Judges?
Each course is usually taught by 2 or 3 instructors, all of whom are also FREE judges, so yes, it is possible to have the performances validated as records. However, be aware that setting records or personal bests is not the main goal of the course, so this will be allowed as long as it doesn't interfere with the proper flow of the course and the other students' learning experience.
